One Year

May 24th marked one amazing, incredible, and adventurous year of marriage for Justin and me. It has gone by so quickly...but it also feels so long ago. We got married in Pennsylvania, then lived in Connecticut, then packed up our stuff and drove to Texas, stayed there for a few months, then packed up half of the stuff we had packed up before, and moved to a ship in Africa. Here we are- going on four months in Benin.

Married life has been excellent, we're a team and location won't change that. We've learned a lot about ourselves... We've changed houses, changed states, changed countries, changed jobs, changed churches, we've gained weight, lost weight, grew hair, lost hair...but we've kept family, kept friends, we keep each other, and we keep God number one, the One who shows us how to love and holds it all together.

I think the directors of Mercy Ships knew what they were doing when they scheduled and three day weekend over our anniversary.  I let Justin do the planning and he surprised me with a wonderful and relaxing long weekend a few hours West, away from the ship.  We stayed in a hotel (bungalows...or small basic cabin-like rooms) on the coast in a town called Grand Popo. There was a restaurant, pool, our books, and a giant chess set.  What more can one ask for??
