Since the end of June we have been living at the Mercy Ship's International Operation Center in Lindale, Texas. We have our own little apartment and a car to use while we're here... a great bonus since I frequent Walmart for groceries and baby items!
Justin has been working full time in the Marine Operations Department (in the building next to our apartment... how convenient :) He is the 'Africa Mercy Generator Project Engineer' and has been preparing for the project from the office, until we meet up with the ship in South Africa.
Lily and I have mostly been staying indoors.... summers are HOT in Texas, even too hot to go to the pool sometimes. I am embracing my new job as mother and greatly enjoying my time with her. She's doing very well..... 5 months old and steadily gaining weight. We haven't weighed her in a while but I'm almost certain she's over 8 pounds. Her last check up was June 29th and she weighed 7 lbs 5 oz. Her next check up (+6 month booster shots) is on August 9th. July has been exciting since Lily has started cooing and smiling at us, we have a great time talking with her!
Cooking has been a bonus while living here.... we don't get to cook much on the ship so I've been enjoying my own little kitchen and favorite recipes (while I can)! I think Justin likes it too ;)
Today Justin and I sent some clothes and about 4 boxes of Lily's 'stuff' on a container ahead of us to South Africa.... this has made the move more 'real.' We will be leaving/flying from Texas on September 2nd to start our 18 hour journey.
The generator replacement project is a very large and important project for Mercy Ships. Please watch the video of President and Founder, Don Stephens below as he explains the importance and magnitude of this project.
